Tarion Making Progress In Addressing Final Auditor General Recommendations

TORONTO – Tarion is seeking public input on proposed changes to continue building a more transparent, fair, and accountable new home warranty and protection program.

The proposal addresses a recommendation on improving the warranty process from the Auditor General of Ontario, as well as increasing the coverage under the new home warranty. Public feedback will help inform Tarion’s implementation of these changes.

The proposed changes include:

  • improvements to the CSS, based on feedback from this past spring, to improve homeowners’ ability to seek assistance from Tarion;
  • a proposal to increase the compensation limit for homes that do not benefit from additional Common Element protections.

To learn more about the proposed changes, click here to see the consultation discussion guide. Those interested in providing feedback can submit it through submissions@tarion.com by February 17, 2022. We look forward to receiving your invaluable feedback, as your input is crucial to Tarion’s policy process and continuous improvements.

This consultation builds upon previous progress Tarion has made in modernizing the organization. To date, Tarion has implemented 19 of the 25 Auditor General recommendation directed to Tarion.

The changes Tarion is making will help all new home buyers in Ontario have peace of mind for one of life’s most significant purchases and create a stronger new home warranty and protection program for all Ontarians.
