Information for homeowners who have experienced wind damage

On Friday, May 4, 2018, a storm passed through parts of Ontario that included extreme winds which in some areas were even hurricane force. Tarion has been receiving inquiries from homeowners who have experienced wind damage. This damage may not be covered under the warranty as this may fall under the act of God exclusion as set out in the Ontario New home Warranties Plan Act.

If your home suffered damage due to these extreme winds, you should contact your builder about your concerns, and each case will be reviewed to determine if warranty coverage applies or if it would be the basis of a claim to your homeowner’s insurance. If you are still within your one-year warranty, you should report this issue on your 30-Day Form, or Year-End Form. If you are within the two-year warranty period and you are experiencing water penetration, please report the issue on your Second-Year Form.
